Ahoy Pirates! I hope you are all well and staying safe! This is a very unprecedented time for our generations. Some have lived through other terrible situations which gives us a glimmer of hope for our future. I know things will change once we all get back to our regular lives – pre-COVID 19, but as we all know changes happen.

Since the schools closed just after Spring Break here in OKC a lot of our normal activities were curtailed. We did not have the opportunity to receive any scholarship requests as these usually come to us after Spring Break. I did reach out to Principal Brett Bradley who was going to send any that might have already been in the process. I have not heard from him. Unfortunately, we did not give out our two Scholarships this year. If we do hear about any 2020 Graduate needing assistance we would love to be able to help them.

We also decided not to send out the yearly newsletter due to cost saving for the year. We will not be having the Annual Pancake Breakfast or the Annual All-Class Reunion. These are our main fund raisers each year and without them, we felt we shouldn’t send out the newsletter. We have talked about having something in the Spring should we be allowed to be in the building.

It was decided by the Putnam City School Board that in person classes will begin on October 26th. This return will include an A/B schedule and require masks to the worn. The A schedule will be in class on Monday and Tuesday and the B Schedule will be in class on Thursday and Friday with Wednesday being a virtual learning for all students. The plan will also allow for social distancing.

I know that a lot of you are aware that we want to change the name of the football stadium back to PIRATE STADIUM. We are talking about ways to help fundraise the cost that would be something fun for all. We have talked about having an old-fashioned sock hop along with an old car show. These plans have not been fully decided. We would also support any class that wanted to donate to the cause. We haven’t been able to get an actual cost, but it won’t be cheap in this day and age.

Speaking of the football stadium, PC has a new head football coach this year. His name is Carter Whitson. The team is currently 2-1 (our only loss was to PC North) with the wins over Putnam City West on Friday, Sept. 11th and the Edmond Bulldogs on Friday, Sept. 18th.  We also have a great playmaker in Senior Seth Wisby. Coach Whitson moved him to tailback this year and he has led the team to these big wins. He is definitely one to watch for when he moves to the next level of play. The next game is Friday, Sept. 25th against Edmond North. The home games have been live streamed through FaceBook and Crossover Radio since most of us cannot attend the actual game. The cost is $4.99 which goes back to the Athletic Department. You will also get a birdseye view of the new stadium floor. So use your computer and support our Putnam City Pirate Football Team!!!!

As always, donations to the PCHS Alumni Association are tax deductible so fell free to send your donations and yearly dues of $10 to our PO Box 34, Bethany, OK 73008.

Stay safe everyone and keep watching for updates on our website.
