Earlene (Specht) Beck, long time Oklahoma County resident and educator,
died Christmas morning, Dec. 25, 2007 in Deaconess Hospital. Earlene was
born Feb. 5, 1919 in OKC to Albert and Blanche Specht of Piedmont. She
graduated from Central H.S., received a BA from Central State University
at Edmond and a Masters from the University of Oklahoma. Additionally,
she studied in Mexico and pursued classical studies in Italy. She taught
for 41 years in the Putnam City school system, primarily at Putnam City
H.S. where she taught Latin, Spanish and English. She also sponsored the
Pep Club, Drill Team, Latin Club and Student Council. She was a long
time parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and enjoyed
traveling in Europe, especially Italy, after retirement. Some of her
fondest memories were of her time spent in Rome. She enjoyed attending
alumni events at Central State University. She was a member of the Kappa
Kappa Iota, Beta Pi Chapter and the OEA retired teachers association for
Putnam City schools. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her
husband Elmer Cleo Beck of Lindsay and OKC. Survivors include a
daughter, Carolyn Beck of OKC; a son, Douglas Beck and wife Susan of
Bedford, TX; three grandchildren, John Douglas Beck of Bedford, TX, and
Danielle and Lacey Beck of OKC; and one brother, Albert Melvin Specht
and wife Martha of Bakersfield, CA. The family will receive guests at
Mercer-Adams, Fri., Dec. 28 from 4-6pm. Funeral Mass will be at St.
Charles Borromeo Church Sat., Dec. 29, 2007 at 11:00am followed by
burial at Edmond Grace Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may
