As the New Year rolled in, the Putnam City Schools Museum extended its hours of operation. Museum officials said the museum will now open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. each Saturday. The museum is located at 4101 N. Grove Avenue, and displays historic artifacts and memorabilia of the Putnam City school district which covers much of the northwest Oklahoma City area.
According to museum officials, the collections contain materials dating back to the formation of the school district which was created nearly a century ago from four small rural schools in the area. The building houses several thousand items which have been donated by the school system and by former graduates, teachers and patrons of the district. Members of the public are encouraged to visit the museum and browse through the displays. “We are certain there are items that hold special attraction for every student who attended the various schools in the Putnam City district,” said Sheron Folsom Rodgers, an officer of the museum committee and 1964 graduate of Putnam City High School.
To celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the Putnam City school district, the museum is currently preparing to publish a book to commemorate the development of one of the state’s foremost educational districts. In addition to a chronologic account of the district, the volunteer book editors are seeking personal stories and anecdotes from former students and district employees.
“If you have a story to share in the book, please contact Al Rodgers at (405) 721-5531 or by email to [email protected]. Rodgers said, “We want the book to include as many personal remembrances as possible, and would certainly like to include yours. So whether you attended Putnam City North, Putnam City West, Putnam City or any of the 27 elementary schools, we want to hear about your recollections of those days.”
The books are available for pre-sale orders and will cost $75 each, plus $6 sales tax. If you wish to have the book mailed to you following publication, there is an additional $6 shipping charge. The books can be ordered from the website, putnamcityschoolsmuseum.com or by mailing a check to PC Schools Museum, P.O. Box 561, Bethany, Oklahoma 73008.

2012 PUTNAM CITY HIGH SCHOOL
ALUMNI ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER
In an attempt to hold down the expense of printing and mailing the newsletter, the Association would appreciate your input. You can print out the form on the 2012 Annual Newsletter and mail it in, or use the contact button at the top of the website. We would like to know if you would just read the Newsletter from the website, which will be online by Sept. 15th of each year, and so, would not need a hard copy mailed to you. You can still send your email address in to be put on the Database list on the website for the reunion and alumni contact information.
ATTENTION REUNION PLANNERS!
As you plan a class reunion weekend, be sure to build in a visit to the PC Schools Museum as part of your official program. The Museum Committee will assemble a special display for each reunion class featuring yearbooks (many from middle school or junior high, and even some elementary ones), school newspapers, scrapbooks, event programs and other memorabilia from your class's school years. The Museum is a great place for classmates to gather on reunion weekend Saturdays . . . or, if you are looking for a free location to host an informal Friday evening gathering we will be happy to open the Museum specially for your group. Should your reunion committee wish to hold an organizational/planning meeting at the Museum, just contact us in advance and we'll make the facilities available to you. SPECIAL BONUS . . . we even have a number of cheerleader uniforms on hand should your class want to "surprise" some of the members at your reunion gathering with a dress up challenge!
